The first of these, the Demonstration Garden, is located at the corner of Cache la Poudre and Mesa Aves.

This garden is centered on five formal perennial beds which are organized by water use with the northern most being the most xeric or waterwise.
The Demonstration Garden also has a Rock Garden, an All America Selections Annual test bed, an heirloom vegetable garden and a mixed shrub border.
THE HEIRLOOM VEGETABLE GARDEN

A small garden plot, in the Demonstration Garden area, has been set aside to grow heirloom vegetables. The design and construction of the garden is done by our volunteers, and with the help of David Romero, our gardener. This area is experimental and instructional. Please visit and learn a little bit about these "old time" vegetables and why they are so important.
THE PINETUM
Across Monument Creek is the Pinetum, a collection of conifers that includes Pinon, ponderosa, limber pine and the largest lacebark pine found west of the Mississippi.
The Hertitage Garden is a block to the north directly behind the 1904 Van Briggle Pottery Building on Glen Avenue. This garden is in the final stages of a renovation begun in 2001. In its re-design it is a formal xeric garden with low to very low water use throughout.

Its organizing point is a magnificent American elm surrounded by a grassed ellipse.
At the north end is a Plant Select Garden featuring appropriate plants introduced by CSU/ Denver Botanic Gardens, a Terrace Garden and a Grass Garden.
At the south end are steel arbors produced by the AV class at Pikes Peak Community College, and a bricked Thyme Garden. Hardscape for the Heritage Garden will be completed in the fall of 2006 with a gazebo also a partnership project with PPCC.
